PUD Broadband extends to Prosser
As part of this extension, we will be installing a
fiber optic backbone in the City of Prosser to provide
wholesale broadband services to that area. The
new fiber backbone will provide access to high speed
broadband services to much of the business and commercial
area of Prosser.
We are proud to be a part of the continuing growth
and development of the Prosser area and to be able
to provide another major technology resource for our
retail service providers and their end users in the
Prosser market.
SWIFT, a local organization that channels HUD grant
funding acquired by Senator Maria Cantwell, has agreed
to fund part of the cost associated with the extension
of the fiber system to Prosser. By funding a
portion of the project, Benton PUD is investing in
Prosser’s future and is meeting the need for
high speed broadband services in an under served rural
area that will bridge existing technology gaps.
Among many successes, Benton PUD is especially pleased
to partner with local government and public organizations. Our
partnership with Benton County has kept project costs
down and provides the County with the ability to have
a high speed broadband connection between the Justice
Center and the Annex located in Kennewick. The
network extension into Prosser will then connect the
Courthouse to the facilities in Kennewick completing
the loop. In addition, we are currently serving
the Kennewick School District and the Mid-Columbia
Library, at significant benefit to the public.
Construction on the Prosser project has begun and service
will be available for customers through a retail service
provider in early fall. For a list of providers,
