Benton PUD, in partnership with PNN,L has expanded the broadband fiber network from Kennewick to Prosser. For the past five years Benton PUD has been leasing dark fiber to connect the Prosser fiber network to Kennewick’s and now owns and operates its own system between the two cities.
In conjunction with the fiber build to Prosser, Benton PUD will also be expanding fiber service through Benton City. Fiber expansion will take place early fall of 2009 and will extend from I82 to Kiona High School. Fiber services to businesses will be available in Benton City towards the end of this year. Once the fiber system is in place, Benton PUD will look at overlaying a fixed wireless network within Benton City for residential and small businesses. All fiber and wireless services will be available through local Retail Service Providers. Click here for a list of Providers or call Benton PUD at

And the broadband network expansion doesn’t stop there. Fiber build out will continue to Prosser Butte, Badger Mountain and Jump off Joe. Construction of the fiber optic system to mountain tops will allow the District to support its electrical operations including SCADA and AMI data backhaul. In addition, the fiber-optic system will enable the District to offer wholesale Broadband services to other entities that have facilities at these sites. The fiber is expected to be completed at the end of September 2009.
Benton PUD provides broadband services on a wholesale basis and has non-exclusive agreements with a number of Retail Service Providers (RSPs). These RSPs resell Benton PUD’s services to end-users. This business arrangement provides competitive pricing and customer choice.
