The process of installing a new underground
service to your home is a joint project
between you and Benton PUD. We request
the following items be completed prior
to connecting your service. Once these
items are complete, Benton PUD will install
your service wire and new meter.
The
items to be completed are:
›
Contact Benton PUD's Engineering Department at 509-582-1230 to request a new permanent service.
›
Obtain your electrical
work permit from the Department of
Labor and Industries.
›
Install your new
meter base on the front, or within
the front 4 feet of the new structure.
›
Obtain underground
locates and provide a trench to the
nearest Benton PUD contact point.
›
Provide trenching
as required.
›
Install service
conduit as required.
›
Obtain the appropriate
electrical inspection.
After the above items
are complete, call Benton PUD's Engineering Department at (509)
582-1230 and inform
them your service has been inspected,
let them know if your trench is open, and
if you are ready for your new service.
The following sections are intended to
provide clarification and assistance so
that you can have power to your home as
easily and quickly as possible. If clarification
is needed on any of the above, please
call the Engineering Department at (509)
582-1230.
Service Line Locaton
Benton PUD strongly
recommends that for an underground service,
the cable route be through an area that
can be dug up. The reason is if the cable
ever fails, Benton PUD is responsible
for its replacement or repair. The area
where the cable and conduit are run may
be dug up if the conduit should fail.
Benton PUD requires that all services
be installed in customer-provided 3-inch
Schedule 40 PVC electrical conduit or
better.
Also, a minimum clearance of 5 feet must
be maintained from any sewer drain field,
regardless of the type of construction
used in the sewer system.
