Home Safety Awareness Month

This June is Home Safety Awareness Month, take this time to make sure your house is safe and ready for possible outages.

Benton PUD encourages you to use this year's Home Safety Month to prepare yourself and your home for any possible outages this spring and summer.

Spring tends to throw us some weather curveballs. Whether it be a rain storm, or heavy winds, these events can contribute to power outages. If you and your household are prepared for an outage event, your family will remain as safe and comfortable as possible.

Benton PUD encourages you to keep a stock of essential supplies for a power outage in an easily accessible place in your home.  Some of these items include:
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • A windup clock
  • Non-perishable food
  • Water (1 gallon per person, per day)
  • Candles and matches

You can also prepare for possible outages by planning ahead:
  • Consider keeping fully charged power-banks around for a quick charge to access resources like SmartHub during an outage on your mobile device
  • If you have an electric garage door opener make sure you know how to open it manually
  • If you need power for health reasons have a plan in place to go somewhere else or to a hospital

If there's a power outage in your area, you can use SmartHub or the SmartHub App to report it (iPhone; Android). SmartHub also has an outage map that allows you to see the number of customers served by an area, the number of customers without power in an area and if a crew has been assigned.  You can sign up for notifications by account service location so you are alerted by text or email when an outage has been reported, and when it has been restored at that location.
